THE BATS WERE FLYING ON OPENING DAY!

Opening Day for the St. Bridget Bats was a huge success! 39,146 were in attendance on Saturday to watch the former Fortuna Grizzlies in their new digs, Stockyards Park. Dennis Rios, owner, took over for his late father, Pancho Rios, back in November following a sudden fatal illness. The elder Rios had been a well-respected and shrewd businessman and was beloved by fans and players alike.
As his first official move as owner, Dennis Rios packed up the team in search of greener pastures. What he found was the beautiful island city of St. Bridget which was more than accommodating to the new owner. City officials pulled together the funds to renovate Stockyards Park, a minor league baseball stadium just a few blocks west of downtown in the gentrified warehouse district.
Over 20,000 seats were added, a brand new copper and sandstone façade was built from nearby natural resources, a new state-of-the-art drainage system was added, and the playing field was lowered several feet below street-level to add to the effect of the skyscrapers looming overhead.
Marshall Street, just north of the stadium, also got a make-over. This once prominent industrial hub has been transformed into a block of high-end bars and restaurants. Patrons arrive by train, subway, and bus to this majestic avenue greeted by large bronze statues and gleaming white Romanesque architecture. Among the statues are city founders, former mayors, and even the former owner, the late great Pancho Rios.
Fans from all over the region are ecstatic about their new major league ball club. The almost 40 thousand on-hand were treated to a 7-2 victory over the Hampton Sounders in their opening day bout. 1B Mark Reese crushed a 423 ft. 2 run home-run in the bottom of the 1st on the first pitch he saw. Reese now owns the distinction of hitting the first home-run in the new park. The player of the game, however, went to C Vicente Cabrera, whom went 2-4 including a solo home-run in the 8th inning.
Pitching was also spectacular on Saturday as Bats’ ace Rob Furlonger went 6 and 1/3 innings striking out 4 and walking only 1. After a mediocre spring training, Furlonger quells some of the murmurs of discontent over his $12,580,000 salary (3rd highest on the team) with his dominating performance on opening day.

Congratulations on winning the series. We've got the series in June circled on our calendar.

Both teams are 6-3 so hopefully both can get some more wins and put a little distance from the other teams.

Also it is wierd seeing them in separate leagues. They don't play each other anymore
