'Peace process demolished'
Yesterday was a day that shocked all of Northern Ireland.
Two solidiers have been killed by the suppositly 'decommissioned' IRA.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7933530.stm
This has set a great deal of worry in many Northern Irish. The last soliders to be killed in NI were in 1997. It is believed that yet again we are taking back a step into our dark past.
What are your opinons?

Terrible event, although I think (and hope) that it's an isolated case.
Neither side wants war anymore, thats a crucial difference.

Re: 'Peace process demolished'
UPDATE: Last night, a police officer was killed responing to an emergency call - the IRA have again taken the blame.
In Belfast there were numerous bomb scares today, including one which forced the evacuation of my school. No one has yet taken responsibilty.
Yes, slacker this time there are only a small minority that still create division although many people (including my generation) still have sectarian attitudes.

Re: 'Peace process demolished'
I agree with Slacker in the hope that they are just isolated cases, unfortunately the situation is quite alarming especially for the risk that these events have on public opinion.
I was too little to remember all the events in Northern Ireland, but I can remember that all this gave me a sense of anguish as the one that gave me the thinking of the war in former Yugoslavia

Apologies to bump and old thread, however, your statements are wholly inaccurate
The shootings were carried out by the Real IRA, a break away splinter group of the now decommissioned Continuity IRA. The Real IRA are still active, although incredibly tiny and they are an illegal organisation. They are the ones responsible for the Omagh Bomb.
Best I correct this.....I dislike inaccurate information, especially when its made to others unaware of the situation here.
Also, FYI, the Peace Process has not been demolished, we are still at peace and are even more determined not to return to those times of civil conflict.

, I hope that everything turns out for the best, I am technically irish somewhat so I hope my people are alright, same with you Emperor Stormont and Niel. (theres not a difference between Northern irish and irish now is there except ireland is a country and Northern Ireland is part of the UK). Either was I hope the IRA comes to their senses and stops these attrocities.
